'Chauffeur' Relatives

Oct 22, 2007

GRANDPARENTS are clocking up a total of 3.8bnmiles a year "chauffeuring" their grandchildren around, a survey shows today.

Grans and grandpas do an average 1,100 miles a year ferrying their grandchildren, the survey from Sheilas'Wheels car insurance found.

If they ran taxi-style meters, grandparents would pocket fares worth an average pounds 3,160 a year.

While the vast majority of such journeys are made when youngsters visit their grandparents, the school run, parties, discos, sport and leisure activities also feature.
