Jun 14, 2007

Tulsa drivers ranked No. 72 in Allstate's list of cities and their degree of motorist safety. Last year, the city was 73rd.

The third annual "Allstate America's Best Drivers Report" analyzes the auto insurer's claim data to determine the likelihood that drivers in the nation's 200 largest cities would experience a vehicle collision compared with the national average.

According to the report, Tulsa drivers experience a collision every 9.9 years.

Compared with the nationwide likelihood of a driver experiencing a crash every 10 years, Tulsa motorists are just 0.9 percent more likely to get into a car accident.

Oklahoma City drivers came in at No. 57, making them 3.4 percent less likely to have an accident compared with the national average.

For the second consecutive year, motorists in Sioux Falls, S.D., maintained their No. 1 status as the safest drivers. The average driver in Sioux Falls experiences an auto collision every 13.7 years and is 27 percent less likely to get into a car accident.

Allstate's auto policies represent about 12 percent of the U.S. population.
