Cops 'in Car Con'

Apr 20, 2007

THIRTY two policemen were among 125 people sent for trial yesterday accused of a pounds 10million car insurance scam.

Lawyers, accountants and other professionals in Bologna, Italy, were allegedly involved in getting bent garages to fill out false accident reports for them.

Cops in the laid-back university city got pounds 70 a time to approve claims which rivalled those of traffic-clogged Naples in three years.

Prosecutors say that the conspiracy members treated the fraud as a "cashpoint".
